Managing Binge Eating
This workbook contains a brief, evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral program for managing binge eating. It is modeled after Dr. Fairburn’s Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Eating Disorders, and it is designed to help you learn more about and reduce binge eating episodes.
You may benefit from this program if:
You struggle with frequent binge eating that does not meet criteria for a complex eating disorder.
You binge-purge and your purge behaviors only occur in response to binge eating episodes.
Binge eating is interfering with fitness related goals or your life in general.
You are motivated and ready to make significant changes to your daily life.
Clinical Recommendations
This is a self-help workbook, so you are free to go through it at your own pace, but here are Dr. Luis’ clinical recommendations for how to pace yourself through the program. Your binge eating habits likely developed over the course of many months or years, so it will take time to change those habits. If you believe you have a grasp of the current section, you are welcome to move to the next. Just be sure to spend at least the minimum time on each section and do not skip anything. Many of the things you practice will carry over to the next section and the rest of the program.
