Meet Your Coach

Dr. Luis Ordaz is a licensed psychologist with a passion for the fitness community. His clinical specialties include body image, eating problems, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Dr. Luis is the owner of Forged Fitness, and he developed the Bodybuilding Mental Health Coaching program in an initiative to make mental health resources more accessible to the fitness community.

FAQs

  • Some of the more common ones I see are eating problems (e.g., binging), poor body image/body dysmorphia, depressed mood, guilt surrounding food or activities, and difficulty balancing competing values (e.g., friends/family and bodybuilding). This list is not exhaustive, so I encourage you to reach out if your problem is not on this list.

  • Sessions are structured and solution-focused. This means we'll get right down to business to make the most of our time. Sessions are 30 minutes long and may involve identifying problems, reviewing psychoeducation on how to address them, and practicing new skills.

  • An example is a great way to answer this question. Let's say you're struggling with binge eating which interferes with your nutrition, setting you back for your upcoming competition. We'll figure out what is leading to your binges and help you build skills to manage those triggers with the goal of helping you stick to your nutrition.

  • These are shorter (10-15 minutes) phone or video calls where we can problem solve as-needed between sessions.

  • They don't have to! As a licensed psychologist, any work we do together is strictly confidential unless you give me permission to share that information with someone else. The main limits to confidentiality typically occur if you or someone else is in imminent danger.

  • While I am licensed and located in Florida, I am authorized under PSYPACT to practice telepsychology across most of the United States. You can use this link to check if your state is a part of PSYPACT.

  • Yes! Even recreational bodybuilding or trying to make lifestyle changes can have similar mental health challenges to competitive bodybuilding.
